As I was walking in a beautiful pine forest I cut my leg on a branch but no blood came from the wound only water the water flowed and flowed and formed a stream the stream flowed and flowed and formed a river the river flowed and flowed and formed an ocean as the water rose I climbed higher and higher I climbed and climbed until I was on an island I climbed as high as the clouds and at the very top I found a single flaming white crystal stone and I bent down to pick it up........

about

"The duo now returns with their second album “Distract’d By A Kaleidoscope Salesman”. On this album, they are assisted on the cello by Arthur Mervyn. In just over 53 minutes they bring 14 tracks, which again cross so many genres, but color outside all the frameworks. In a spooky, cosmic and cinematic way you get pieces that manage to transport you to another universe...."

"What would ghosts listen to"?

Further answers to this question as SPIRIT RADIO releases their second full-length for Editions Vaché. Stephen Spera and Tamalyn Miller continue down their cosmic path....

"Every now and then an album comes along that simply blows you away. Distract’d by a Kaleidoscope Salesman is one such album – blending together elements of dark ambient / drone, classical music, folk, and eerie field recordings to create something very special indeed. This is an album to lose yourself to, with each and every listen offering something new, as the swirling, evolving sonic soundscape carries you with it. Simply wonderful." - this is darkness / frozen in time sept 2024

"Stephan Spera is a New York based artist working in the fields of music, art and photography.
Spera composes songs wrapped in layers that combine electronic and acoustic sounds together with environmental recordings, producing vaporous textures that navigate into the waters of ambient.
His discography has been released on renowned labels such as LAAPS (France), Handstitched (Great Britain), Parvoart (Germany), Red Records (Amsterdam), Tessellate (London), TraceRecordings (London) and Editions Vaché (New York).
Spirit Radio is Stephen Spera and musician, poet, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Tamalyn Miller, who also works with Craig Chin as Invisible Collage and in the psychedelic folk quartet Goddess. This is their second album under the Spirit Radio moniker.
On the new album “Distract’d by a Kaleidoscope Salesman” Tamalyn Miller plays handmade horsehair fiddle and vocals. Stephen Spera plays guitars, keyboards, electric sitar, percussion, instruments, production, and as a guest artist, Arthur Mervyn play cello.
The sudden dialogues and the choppy radio recordings of “Doctrinal” – which opens the album – augur a sober, intense and evocative album of folk and ambient landscapes, with nods to oriental music as in “Alembic”, and “Leafwhelmed”, where the violin seems at times to have a similar timbre to the Turkish Kabak Kemane violin.
“Postcards” transports to a dreamlike world with little stories in which Tamalyn Miller’s heavenly voice glides. On “Hornsilver” the duo explores slowed down dub rhythms, along with Miller’s loop vocals, then enters with uplifting melodies and mysterious vocals on “Mechanical Chess Player”. The arabesque air of “The Formless” lends an enigmatic character to this song that is accompanied by Miller’s reading that apparently is an English translation of a language I can’t identify. Where the heroine makes a wound with the branch of a tree and emerges – like a magical tale – water instead of blood. And that water creates currents, from which rivers are formed and from those rivers, oceans…. In “Breath Amen” Spera displays several layers of ambient textures, along with the violin thickness, and Miller’s whispering voice and the ethnic percussion. The strings seem to be plucked from a guitar on “Blue Remains”, creating a dreamy atmosphere that continues on “Fading Into View” which closes the album, along with distant backing vocals, small noises and chimes.
The song “Postcards” by Spirit Radio allows climb higher and higher on a mountain to observe from there, a calmer and beautiful landscape."- LOOP.cl

"the recording takes on the character of phantom transmissions reaching our ears through archaic devices of one kind or another...."
